Evangeline's 3rd Brave Birthday

This year Eva has been very much into the movie Brave. She has two bow and arrow sets. She has a beautiful handmade (by Grandma Sheila, with lots of love) Merida dress complete with a cape and quiver, I made her a Merida hair crown. She is gets sooo serious when she is practicing her archery skills. She gets very still, her face focused on the target, she pulls back slowly on the arrow, holds it to perfect her aim, and then... lets go! Away the arrow flies through the air...one foot and then crashes into the ground.. :)
Josh had to make her authentic wooded arrows (out of dowels) because the plastic ones that came with her first bow and arrow set didn't last too long. Eva kept replaying the scene in Brave when Merida puts one arrow in her mouth while she is riding Angus, Eva just must bite down really hard because she cracked all three in half that way!

If anyone asked her  "Are you Merida?" She's say, "No! I'm Eva!"

So we decided to have a Merida themed birthday party for her this year. This is what we came up with for the games:

Archery

Then Josh built the target holder out of dowels. The target was a metal wreath holder that we got from the fabric store. We put fabric over top and painted it. We put a whole in the middle and attached red fabric to the back to catch the arrows that are shot into the middle.

Cake Toss

Josh made the cake toss table with wood from the hardware store. He is a great artist so he drew the outline for the triplets and then I painted it. We wanted it to look like the boys were eating the cakes so the holes were their mouths which we made pretty big because the kids were all young and we didn't want to make it too hard. I think it came out so great!

Fishing Pond

 The fishing pond is just a  blue kiddie pool I filled with blue cellophane. I made the fish out of felt with a little stuffing, googly eyes, and a metal washer. The fishing polls were wood sticks we found with twine and a magnet tied to the end.

Caber Toss

The Caber toss was a large Styrofoam cylinder we painted to look like a log. On the ground I drew markers for how many feet the kids could toss it.

The games were so much fun! All the kids ran around in a big group testing their skills.

We also made a Witch's Brew Punch. Eva loved pouring the vials into it.

 Josh found a large stump one day on his way home. He brought it home and cut it into 4 pieces to put on the table. The pictures of the table were taken before we put the food out but it looked so cute once everything was set up!

We let the kids play and enjoy the food and Disney music and then all of a sudden... Merida came!
